The Things That Matter

Upon recently losing a loved one very near and dear to your heart, you can’t help but reflect on your own life. This has recently come to mind due to the unexpected passing of a family member of mine whom I loved and admired very much. In light of this event, I thought it would be nice to write about the importance of the things that matter. Call me a hippie, but for me, it’s all about LOVE.

If I were to tell you that life is very simple, would you believe it? In my opinion, life IS very simple. Life is simple when you love purely, authentically and completely. Life is simple when you surround yourself by those that make you happy and don’t put you down. Life is simple when you accept yourself for exactly who you are and live on fearlessly. Life is simple when you don’t sweat the small stuff. Life is simple when you live with purpose.

Now-a-days we find ourselves short on time and running around like chickens with our heads cut off. For your own sake and health, please make a promise to yourself that you will always make time for hug fests and laughing parties. Allow yourself to let go and be present. I know that all of this is much easier said than done and these words may sound like many texts you’ve read before but there’s a reason why these things are constantly repeated. They are true.

As John Mayer gently writes on his song titled,  “Say What You Need To Say” for the movie The Bucket List, don’t wait to say those things that need to be said. Life is only complicated and full of drama if you allow for it to be. If you find yourself angry, it is only your doing. Breathe and let it go because it will only poison your soul. We all have our daily obligations and responsibilities which can sometimes be a bummer, but if we approach them with a good attitude and kindness, you’ll reap the benefits.

In the end, your job isn’t going to save you. Your trophies aren’t going to make you feel better. Fame isn’t going to say “I love you” and financial status isn’t going to free you. Love is the only virtue that will rise up to show you you’ve lived a great life.

I encourage you to read this short article titled Five Regrets of the Dying, by Bonnie Ware. Wow.

Be Kind. Laugh. Be Present. Love, love, love.

Thanks for reading!
